E3 Conference

The E3 Conference in Lost Angeles was opened by Microsoft’s press event which explained how the Xbox will become an entertainment hub rather than just a games console. It is building on the huge success of the Kinect console, updating it and adding more voice controls for activating music and games, including a new voice-controlled Bing Web search feature.

"Technologies that see us hear us and connect us all together are changing the way we interact and have fun." Don Mattrick, Head of Microsoft's Xbox and Games Business

Don Mattrich also said he expects the Xbox 360 will become the world’s best selling games console this year.

New Xbox Developments

New live TV services will be available on the Xbox, expanding on the ESPN service already available on the console. The service will be available in the U.S. by the end of 2012.

Google's YouTube is also going to become a channel on Xbox Live – demonstrating an important new partnership between Microsoft and Google.

The event began with a demonstration of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," which is expected to be the biggest seller on all consoles this year.

Other new games demonstrated included:

A Disney game that lets players explore a Disney theme park and take "rides" via the Kinect motion sensor.

A "Star Wars" game which lets players swing their arms to fight with a light saber.

A new cinematic Tomb Raider game.

Halo 4

It was expected that a reduction in price may be announced but the price of the console will remain the same. In the US prices starts at $200, or $150 for Kinect controller.
